Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT)

Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT)

About

Our campus has established the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). The BIT is a multidisciplinary, rapid response team for evaluating incidents of potential or actual violence within the UCSC community. The specific functions of the BIT are to: (1) collect information on the incident, (2) assess the potential for escalation to violence, and (3) advise individuals and university offices on providing a coordinated campus response.

Who BIT Serves

The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) serves as a resource for all faculty, staff, students and academic appointees to consult on disruptive or concerning behavior and potential, perceived, or actual threats of violence. Anyone can contact BIT to discuss a concern, and all reports of concern are reviewed.

When to contact the Behavioral Intervention Team
– Threat of violence
– Concerning or threatening behavior
– Suicidal ideation
– Threat or use of physical force

What happens when BIT is contacted?

The Behavioral Intervention Team members assess and guide to mitigate intimidating, threatening or violent behaviors. Other departments may be consulted to better provide a comprehensive assessment and assist in creating a support and/or safety plan.

Who can contact BIT?

All members of the campus community can contact BIT to help maintain a safe and supportive environment. Anyone may submit a BIT incident report without fear of reprisal or retaliation.
